Don't believe what it says on Fender's list of serial numbers – I have a 2004 CIJ Precision that has a serial number that's Q + 6-digits, whereas the site says that it should be 5-digits. Does it say "Crafted in Japan" or "Made in Japan" beside the serial number? If it's a CIJ then the serial number seems OK for 2002. Japanese Fenders have their serial number as a transfer on the heel of the neck – so that sounds right.
